Objectives
The project seeks to strengthen civil society to create space and mobilise across geographies to demand more inclusive and sustainable trade and value chains that respect human rights, protect the environment, and promote women’s economic empowerment
As part of its natural resource work, the network is interested in how policies and practices in the extractives sector promote women’s representation and participation, and equitable opportunities in the sector. The Power of Voices Project (PVP) is being implemented in partnership with Third World Network Africa (TWN-Africa) to strengthen civil society to create space and mobilise across geographies to demand more inclusive and sustainable trade and value chains that respect human rights, protect the environment, and promote women’s economic empowerment.
The project has so far enhanced the capacity of women's rights organizations (WROs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) to advocate for gender equality and social inclusion within the extractive sector. It has also created a platform for knowledge sharing and dialogue among diverse stakeholders. Through a number of engagements, the project provided a platform for exchanging ideas, best practices, and innovative solutions, ultimately contributing to greater awareness and collaboration in the pursuit of fair and sustainable extractive practices. There has also been a concerted effort to intensify research, knowledge management, and advocacy within the extractive sector, particularly focusing on gender equality and the inclusion of women: One significant initiative has been the production of a documentary that shed light on the challenges faced by women in the sector, as well as opportunities for addressing these challenges.
